Yesterday Daddy turned 40! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! No longer a young man in his thirties, sniff sniff. I asked him how he felt about turning 40, and he said, indifferently, "so what, no big deal." ugh men. They're so annoying. I'll be celebrating my 40th with a bang!, a whole lot of fanfare, and a good sobbing cry about my ever aging body. But Hubbs? Meh, he says with almost no emotion.
What do you want for your bday? Nothing.
What do you want to do? Nothing.
What do you want to eat? Don't care.....wait, spaghetti. your homemade spaghetti. and a tray of meats.
The night was casual and awesome. As requested, I made my homemade spaghetti bolognese with meat sauce (takes 5 hours, NO LESS, to simmer to get the right flavor), my famous (well, famous only to me) homemade layered chocolate cake (it's so effin good. like, crazy fuckin good.) and our buddy Alan brought over three trays of fresh off the smoker meat assortments, or as Hubbs calls it, "Carnivore's Delight." In total surprise to Boss, 11 of his best bros came over. It was perfect. They just walked in like dudes off the street, randomly at different times, until the next thing I knew all of them were eating meat with their bare hands, standing up crowded in my tiny kitchen, being delightful carnivores. Hubbs was totally surprised, completely elated and, although he said nothing, I could easily tell, he was deeply moved. They gave him a long board skateboard, and it's AWESOME. He loves it! Sidenote: These dudes have been there 100% for us since the moment we met. And since Amelie got sick, they have been there 200% going above and beyond, dropping anything and coming to our aid in a moment's notice. These guys are our family and we cannot live without them....plus they're funny as shit. We NEVER tire of their hilarious company. Except you, Henni. I've bout had enough of you. (jk brother, I know you're reading this) ;)
It was a simple, perfect, and an amazing birthday for a man who, more than once, has been through hell and back, and every day is forced to sit back and helplessly watch his only daughter, his soulmate, his heart and true love, lay in bed unable to talk or move, no long able to hear her sweet voice saying "goodnight Daddy" or hear her laugh at his jokes and tickling. He's a tortured soul, and so this birthday is sentimentally poignant. THANK YOU brothers, for showing him your unending love.
Happy 40th Birthday, my love.
and p.s. Amelie got to lick the chocolate spoon after I made the cake. she LOVED it. Chocolate will be had every day, I'm going to get a prescription for it. ;-)
