"I'm a prin-thess"
Daddy got her this gown in Israel, and when we put it on her she took a bow, exclaiming, "look i'm a prin-thess!"
Yes you are, my darling.
Meet: Mommy and Daddy.
this child was practically born on the beach (had i gone into labor during one of my daily hour long walks on the beach, she literally would have). She loves the water. This pics harkens back to a time where we were cash poor and beach wealthy. it was amazing. daddy brought the entire patio set down to the beach one day, and we spent almost 8 hours in the sand. brave took a nap face planted on a towel while i passed out tanning like a sun goddess, while Amelie munched on sand-seasoned gritty popcorn. good times
Meet: Bravery Jon Thomas. lil brother.
Amelie sitting in the waiting room of a cardiologist in Virginia Beach, VA (where she was born). Daddy, knowing he was about to embark on a solo mission, taking a wildly defiant Amelita to an appointment she was NOT going to be happy about, and a diaper-sportin-bottle-toting Bravery, stopped at 7-11 to get a "unauthorized snack": Lunchables. I know some of you are like, what's wrong with that? um a lot. We eat pretty clean in this house, and those are generally off limits as processed crap.
Thus this picture is so adorable--she's LOVING the rule breakin. and, more importantly, it's making an otherwise totally lame day into something fun.
Even the most menial appointment was a mild form of torture for Amelie. She had sensory issues, hated being poked and prodded and pinched. Because chemo causes irreversible hearing damage, the docs wanted her hearing tested monthly before each chemo treatment. Those appointments ranged from "not so bad" to exhausting hour-long negotiations, candy bribery, and sometimes physical restraint. On this instance, I brought along cousin Sophie, who patiently and expertly walked Amelie through every step and procedure, coolly explaining and effortlessly getting Amelie to comply. Ice cream and french fries were had for all after this day.
Well Hi there.

Lots of days were spent like this. in the hospital. but at least we were together.
my beach babe.
man i miss going to the beach with this kid. free, doesn't cost a thing, and yet fills up the soul bank account.
TBT to ICU
Throwback to our first ever ICU visit, when this whole journey began. Look at this child!!! being stuck in the hospital bed for WEEKS didn't phase her as long as she was entertained. that hair tho! the surgery had given her a mass of crumbled up curls of blood and iodine, which we couldn't ever get out. We had to cut it all off, which destroyed me a little at the time, but, looking back on it, was a great precursor to her losing her hair a few short weeks later.
